FULLY FUNDED VOLUNTEERING COURSE.

Are you interested in volunteering but for one reason or another aren't quite ready to take the plunge?  Dover District Volunteering Centre understands there are many reasons why taking on a volunteer role may seem daunting.  You may lack confidence or need encouragement, you may worry about your childcare options or travel costs, you may be struggling to decide what sort of volunteer work you would like to do.

If this sounds familiar to you, then our FREE course could greatly benefit you.  The course takes place in Dover on Wed 7th and Thurs 8th March 2012.  Lunch and refreshments are included free of charge, and travel expenses can be reimbursed.  All previous course participants have found them informative, fun and interesting.  Courses are funded by NLDC Response. If you would like to book a place, please contact Karen at the Volunteer Centre on 367898 or email office@doverdistrictvolunteering.org.uk

CLUB, SOCIETY AND VILLAGE REPORTS

GREAT MONGEHAM HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY

The February meeting was well attended despite a cold evening. Those attending were rewarded with an excellent talk with pictures on the subject of sweet peas, how they are grown and how to exhibit them at shows by Phil Johnson, a very highly qualified sweet pea judge and grower. We all learnt a lot and will be doing our best to grow some beauties this summer.

Seed potatoes were handed out with 10 litre pots, all we have to do is grow them on and see what we can produce at the June weigh in.!!

The next meeting will be on the 7th of March, with a welcome return of Radio Kentís gardening expert Jean Griffin. (JB)

GREAT MONGEHAM SINGERS

We will be meeting in the room above the Church on Wednesdays the 7th and 21st March, at 7.30pm. (VR)

SAINT MARTINíS WI

Marlene Burnham gave a nice warm talk about Aden 1962. The hot weather there warmed members on a very cold evening. March 8th meeting will have a 'hands on' and talk on Sugar Craft. The competition will be the flowers made during the evening. New members and visitors are welcome at any meeting in the Parish Hall 7.30pm start  01304-373604 (PSB)

PARISH HALL

The Parish Hall trustees would like to thank the Chairman, Patricia Scott-Bradford, for applying for the grant for the renovation of the Hall floor and speaking for our application at the Grants meeting. The result is a very smart floor including the stage with all costs covered by the grant. I am sure this will benefit all hall users. Further improvements to the hall are envisaged The next project is updating the kitchen.(MB)

Bob and Ross Smart from. Complete Hygiene Floor Care have done a very good job on the hall floor which is now shiny and polished ready for the busy year ahead. A grant from Dover District Neighbourhood Forums enabled the work to be carried out. (PSB)

VULNERABLE PEOPLE

Great Mongeham Parish Council is trying to make a list of vulnerable people in the parish who may be at risk should the area get cut off by snow or other problems. If you are in this category or have a neighbour who is, please could you send  details to Cllr Christian Burwash, 393 St.Richards Road, Deal, CT14 9LQ or email
