CLUB, SOCIETY AND VILLAGE REPORTS Great Mongeham Horticultural Society June 1st was a lovely evening, perfect for a Barbecue which was much enjoyed by members, while they anxiously awaited the result of the grand potato weigh-in. Eventually first and second prizes went to Ray and Barbara Odell each with over 4lbs of potatoes, the booby weighed in with one ounce!! The meeting was a lot of fun and the teams of cooks and weighers were gratefully thanked by Chairman, Keith. Members were reminded to bring their entries for the Rose and Sweet Pea Show to our next meeting, at which the speaker will be from the Sandwich Bay Bird Observatory. JB
St. Martin’s W.I. Had a very interesting talk on the goodness of chocolate. Kieran Renhan from Chocolutions spoke on the cocao beans from start to the finish with tasters. Pure chocolate is sweetened with agave nectar and is packed with antioxidants. PSB
Great Mongeham Society Just missing the rain, 16 members and 2 visitors enjoyed identifying tree species in the garden at Mundels before moving inside for refreshments and the quiz answers. Nick Windsor was the winner with over 30. The correct height of the eucalyptus was over 62 ft—Steve Chappell and Jim Rees were the nearest. Many thanks to all those who helped make this a fun evening and to Brian and Diana for their kind hospitality. For further information on the Society visit the website at www.greatmongehamsociety.co.uk
Drop In Welcome to Haydn Powlter, the Parish Community Warden—not to be missed at 6 foot plus. Dave Bish who has been of great help in the past to the village is now at the office desk in Dover. They will still visit the Drop In on Thursdays from 10 am until 11 am when they get time for a cuppa and chat. If there is anything that worries you in the community Haydn can be contacted on 07813713722. PSB Boot Fair held on Monday, 30th May on the Village Green made £1486—proceeds to St. Martin’s Church. Many thanks to all those who kindly supported the event.
Totally Dance Mongeham Village Hall is home to the Jan Anton Dancers, there are two groups, Jan's Little Ballerinas and Jan's Juniors. They performed in their first show on Sunday June 14th at the new Astor Theatre. It was a delightful evening enjoyed by both the performers and the audience. Everyone was impressed by the professionalism of even the smallest child. The youngest being only just 3 years old and they behaved impeccably both on and off the stage. Also participating were the Dover Divas a group of ladies that started life as a keep-fit class but ended up becoming a tap dance troupe, they love every minute of it and participate in shows at many local venues. The Director of the Theatre James Tillit was extremely complimentary about the smooth running of the operation and claimed the whole night was 'superbly run and organised', well done to everybody who helped to make it so. .Jan's next project is a Variety Show at the Ash Village Hall on July 2nd and the dancers have been asked back to perform with the New Ash Players in Dick Whittington at the Village Hall again this Christmas. Jan teaches both Dance and Fitness and can be contacted by phone 01304 373421 or email dancerjan@gmail.com
We take this opportunity of thanking our proof reader Carol Greener and all those who kindly deliver your monthly Newsletter. Your help is much appreciated. PH/SS
