Keith reported an excellent year for the Club. Our own Shows had been well supported with a profusion of quality entries from members, shown to advantage by the delightful ‘staging’ of Carol and Co. Members had also done extremely well in the Kent County Show. Following the business meeting the great ‘Pumpkin Weigh-In’ got under way, although the winner was fairly obvious! Steve Pitcher Juniors ‘Giant’ took first place and Brian Knight a worthy second. JB
Great Mongeham Society The AGM was well attended—John Bowsher was elected as Chairperson with Audrey Pitchford as Secretary. A full committee will assist with all the Society’s meetings and events. Alex Summers gave a most ‘illuminating’ talk showing the materials used, where velum and parchment came from, how paint and gold leaf were gathered and made. Members were fascinated to see how a paintbrush was made from the two pin feathers of a certain bird. Many questions were asked and ably answered by Alex. Cheese and wine was served with members still talking and looking at the articles on display. PSB The Christmas decorations have been appreciated by hall users. Many thanks to the hall committee for their hard work putting them up and removing the decorations. The Trustees and representative of the Parish Hall welcome Emma Pellatt as the Hall Administrator. We sadly say goodbye to Nick and Jenny Windsor. The have always helped the hall and village where ever they could and will be missed. Good luck with your move and hope to see you both at various village events. PSB
Great Mongeham Singers have enjoyed a very happy year. Members have sung for the Deal Arthritis Care Club, at two Weddings and will shortly be singing at Norman Taylor House. We resume fortnightly meetings in the New Year and as always all are welcome to come along and join in. VR
The Jan Anton Childrens Great Mongeham Parish Hall Dancers are proud to be the first little chorus of entertainers to take part in the very popular long running Pantomime in Ash this Christmas. During the Christmas holidays Jan and her helpers will be putting the finishing touches to the beautiful costumes, wings, tutus, head dresses etc. and Jan would like to take this opportunity to thank all the Mum’s, Dad’s, Grandparents and all for their support and wish them a very happy panto season which begins on January 13th for 4 performances. The spring will be a time for Jan’s students to either take their first ever ballet exams for the tots and for the older ones to progress on to higher grades. On the syllabus for 2011 will be ballet, tap, modern and acrobatics. New classes will re-open after Christmas on Friday, 7th January for the dancers and Ladies morning Keep-Fit will recommence on Monday, 10th January. For more information please phone Jan 01304 373421 or E Mail dancerjan@gmail.com
This month we say goodbye to Nick and Jenny Windsor who have been living at Willow Lodge for the last thirteen years—we take this opportunity of thanking them for all their hard work and support on various clubs and committees within our village. We wish them every happiness in their new home. We welcome the Lees family who have moved into their house and the new tenants who have moved into 3 Brewery Cottages. We hope they will enjoy life in Great Mongeham and look forward to welcoming them to one of the many clubs/events in the village.

County Councillor’s Report A Happy Christmas to all residents. It has been a busy year with the work on the Waste and Minerals development Framework as well as the continued pressure on budgets due to the comprehensive spending review. The County council is in a good position to take advantage of many new opportunities from central government. The work on the new waste contract is an opportunity to reduce costs while providing an expanded recycling service. A true case of more for less! This work is so good that our East Kent Partners are now seen across the county, as having a sustainable and efficient waste collection service giving good satisfaction to our residents. There are still many opportunities to further improve our services to our residents as well as make savings to keep the council’s finance position viable. The District council is strengthening its links with the county council to further improve services across the district. I would like to take this opportunity to wish all residents a Safe Christmas and a prosperous New Year. Steve Manion
