CLUB, SOCIETY AND VILLAGE REPORTS Great Mongeham Horticultural Society There were nearly 400 entries for the Summer Show held in the Parish Hall on August Bank Holiday Monday. It was a glorious day and the show was well attended. There were plenty of entries by new members, as well as old stalwarts. Considering the very dry weather we have had, the flowers and vegetables were of excellent quality. Congratulations to all the prize winners, especially Alan Ford who walked away with five trophies. Each of the seven show judges remarked on the high standard of entries, as is expected of the society.

Welcome to Great Mongeham Barney, Emma and Alfie Harrison who recently moved into Dairy Mews. Emma’s mother Wendy, Aunt Sandra and grandmother Edna have been Saint Martin’s W.I. members for many years. We also welcome Andy Fisher and family who live in the village and won the recent Treasure Hunt. PSB
Beaux and Belles We have a good number of folk who like to sing but we still need more. We usually have around 10 or so people turning up each week but the more the merrier. The ability to sing like Katherine Jenkins or Pavarotti and read music is not required. We sing just for fun and if you would like to come along and see what we are up to please do. You will be very welcome. We sing everything from WW11 song s to modern musicals and old favourites like ‘Little Brown Jug’. VR
St. Martin’s Handbell Ringing Group It is hoped to reform the group, if there is enough interest. We need at least six people and then it might be possible to play some carols at Christmas. Musical experience or the ability to read music is not necessary. If you are interested please contact Audrey Pitchford telephone 01304 362202.
Many thanks Peter Hambrook and his family would like to thank the readers of the Great Mongeham Newsletter for the support and kindness shown to them and Judy through out her illness, and inevitable death, over the last two and a half years. We have been overwhelmed with the number of cards and personal letters of condolence that we have received, as well as the number who attended her funeral service. That in its self was a great support to us and a wonderful tribute to Judy’s memory. She requested that if anyone wished, instead of sending flowers, that they could make a donation towards a kitchen coffee bar area in St. Martin’s Church. We thank friends and family very much for their kind generosity as the fund received, banked and ring fenced stands at £2,163.59. The project will make a lasting memory to a much-loved parishioner of St. Martins.
