CLUB, SOCIETY AND VILLAGE REPORTS

Great Mongeham Horticultural Society The Club meeting in May was very well attended and our guest speaker was Mr. March who gave a very interesting history of the Honey Bee. He had brought with him several jars of his own honey from his hives and members were able to purchase and try proper honey, not from the supermarket!! JB

Great Mongeham Society At the May meeting, Dr. John Bowsher gave a very informative talk about Visual Audio Photography. The screen was alive with pictures and sound. A number of visitors were welcomed to the meeting and many questions were asked and answered. PSB

Saint Martin’s W.I. Discussed the resolution on ‘Save the Honey Bees’ at their May meeting and the result of the members vote was sent to the area delegate to take to the Albert Hall on 3rd June. Not only a U.K. situation but worldwide, No Bees, no Honey for Tea.

If you want to find out more about the W.I. come along to the Village Fun Afternoon on Saturday, 4th July and talk to some of the members. PSB

Village Design Statement

Those residents who applied for their free copy of the Village Design Statement should by now have received one; but if any resident of Great Mongeham who did not apply earlier would now like one, there are copies available. Please let any member of the committee know and a copy can be delivered to you. Enquiries: please phone 01304 373299. SB

Beaux and Belles

The first meeting of the newly formed Great Mongeham Singing Group was good fun with renderings of My Grandfather’s Clock, Lilli Marlene and The Last Thing on my Mind. We were ably led by Lynda Borley, who we are delighted to say, has agreed to come along as our ‘leader’.

Audrey Pitchford kindly accompanied us on the keyboard. However, Audrey really wants to sing so we would doubly welcome someone who can play a musical instrument.

We would still like more people to come along—including men of course. We have decided to meet fortnightly on Wednesdays in the room above St. Martin’s Church at 7.30 pm. Our next gathering will be on Wednesday, 3rd June. We are just for fun and you do NOT need to be able to sing or read music. Val Rees

Three Horseshoes

Sam and Richard Rodwell have just produced their first newsletter from the Three Horseshoes. It’s packed full of events and news from the pub, the most amazing information is that they will be celebrating their first year there in July. As part of their anniversary celebration they are offering 10% off all food throughout July providing you take their newsletter with you.

A Mongeham’s Got Talent competition is being held at the pub and the last day of entering is Tuesday, 30th June. Auditions are being held every Saturday in July to find a winner to perform at the Three Horseshoes Charity Fun Day over the August Bank Holiday. Money raised will hopefully be enough to sponsor a puppy for Guide Dogs for the Blind. £6000 is needed and their fund raising is already well under way. Your support will be greatly appreciated. DK

Boot Fair

The Bank Holiday Boot Fair held on the Village Green raised in excess of £1000 for St. Martin’s Church funds. Many thanks to all those who helped and supported the event. PH

Farmer’s Market Stall on the Village Green

Why not come along and sell your home produce on Saturday, 20th June from 10 am to 1 pm. A percentage of sales will go to St. Martin’s Church funds. This is not a Boot Fair but an excellent way to share your home grown vegetables, fruit and preserves. The event will take place on the 3rd Saturday of every month. For further details please contact Peter Hambrook Tel. 364457.
