St. Martin’s Church Great Mongeham Art Show Over 50 local artists have been invited to take part in the 17th annual village art exhibition and sale to be held in Great Mongeham. This year there is a change of venue as it is moving from the parish hall to Saint Martin’s Church and will take place over six days rather than two as in the past. It will be held from Saturday, 8th until Thursday, 13th November from 11 am to 4 pm daily. The organizers, The Friends of Saint Martin’s Church, are hoping to attract more visitors who are invited to enjoy works of art in the tranquil setting of the spacious old church. “They can linger over morning coffee or afternoon tea and they can also have a light lunch, as long as it is pre-booked and entrance is free,” said organizer Diana Knight.
Music in St. Martin’s Following the enjoyable musical evening held last year, St. Martin’s PCC is holding a charity concert performed by local musicians on November 22nd at 7.00 pm. Entrance is £5 to include light refreshments. Programme tickets will be available from Wendy Madgwick on 01304 239143 or at the door on the evening. |

Great Mongeham Society Members had a very interesting talk by Keith Parfitt with slides on the Ringlemere Gold Cup. In 2001, Metal Dectorist Cliff Bradshaw found the Bronze Age vessel on land at Woodnesborough. The Cup has been compared to the Rillaton Cup, a biconical gold vessel found in Cornwall in 1837. Further excavations have taken place and it is now the most important archaelogical site in East Kent. PSB
Parish Hall Trustees At the recent meeting, members discussed all aspects of the Parish Hall, bookings, maintenance, events and general upkeep, licences and health and safety rules. The use of bouncy castles in the hall is not permitted, and strict rules must be observed by all hall users. PSB A coffee morning held at the “Drop In” in the parish hall last month raised £150 for the McMillan Nurses. Many thanks to all those who attended and gave generously to the cause. Dorothy Sharpe
The Drop In held on Thursdays from 10 am until 11 am in the Parish Hall, welcomed KCC Warden Dave Bush who joined us for a coffee and explained that he was available for anyone requiring advice, on security and safety matters, especially retired people. He handed out ‘freebies’ - high pitched personal alarms, small flashing lights which could be seen half a mile away and trick or treat ‘no thank you’ posters. There will be a Police Surgery on Thursday, 20th November from 10 am to 11 am - come along and ask questions or if you are unable to come telephone Dave on 07813 713722 or PSCO Paul Newman 07989 992465. PSB
The Harvest Supper Quiz
held recently in the Parish Hall raised £200 which will be sent to our
friends in Madagascar. Grateful thanks to all who helped run the evening.
