We were sad to hear that Eric Colgate passed away on the 7th December, 2005 while sitting at home watching television. He was 71 years of age and died on his Birthday. Although living just outside the official boundaries of Great Mongeham, he along with his wife Jean were great supporters of many functions that go on in the village.

Eric leaves Jean his wife and their son Howard and two grand children Florence and Alex.

All who knew him will sadly miss him and we send our condolences to his remaining family.

CLUB, SOCIETY AND VILLAGE REPORTS

Gt. Mongeham Horticultural Society held their Christmas Party in the Parish Hall. It was a jolly occasion, the Hall had been beautifully decorated for Christmas, and members excelled themselves by bringing along plenty of home made goodies so there was lots to eat and drink. A light hearted quiz was enjoyed by everyone. JB

The Parish Hall committee were very pleased to be awarded a Grant from the Coalfields Re-generation Trust. This has gone towards the renewal and update of the hall ceiling heaters. The committee thank all the groups who sent letters to support the application for the Grant. The ’Bridging the Gap’ offices at Whitfield were very helpful in our application. It is hoped all users of the hall, appreciate the benefits of the heaters in the next cold months. You will see the Coalfield’s Regeneration Trust Logo at the hall.

Grateful thanks go to Nick Windsor for repairing the notice board, outside the hall that had been vandalized a few weeks before. All notices must be sanctioned by the Parish Hall committee before going onto the board. PSB

CONGRATULATIONS

Our daughter, Frances Morgan is nearing the end of her 3 year B.A. Archaeology Degree, and she recently practised her Presentation talk to a small group of friends and relatives, in prepara-tion for her exam in December. Frances would very much like to thank everyone who attended and to let them know that she achieved an outstanding mark of 75%. The Monumental Brass Society has asked her for a copy of her correlated dissertation for their Archives—a very great honour!

Well done Frances—Sue, Simon and family

WELL DONE

It was the end of a very eventful period for Hayden McCarthy of Cherry Lane, Gt. Mongeham. He had saved a young girl’s life, by giving her the ‘kiss of life’ at Tides Swimming Pool and this was followed by him receiving his Higher National Diploma at the ‘Cap and Gown Ceremony’, at Canterbury Cathedral. Good luck Hayden for your Degree. Derrick Long
