Society and Club Reports

Great Mongeham Society meets in the Parish Hall at 7.30 pm on the third Thursday in the month to foster an interest in and appreciation of the village.  The society is non-fund-raising, financed by an annual subscription of £5 and a 50p meeting charge.  Membership is open to all villagers past and present, young and old who demonstrate an interest in the village.

We invite you to join the society and look forward to welcoming you.                                 DK

Great Mongeham Horticultural Society The Spring Show was held on 6th April, 2005.  The Judges congratulated members on the high standard of the numerous entries.  To everyone’s delight, Janet Lawrence won the Cup for Best Bloom in Show and was also awarded the cup for most points in Show.  Members agreed that Fred would have been thrilled.                    JB

1st Great Mongeham Brownies  Wednesdays 5.30—7.00 pm in Mongeham Baptist Church Hall.  Everyone was having great fun, when I called in last week—they had just eaten a fruit salad they had made earlier on in the evening—I was just too late to sample it!  At the moment there are 24 in the pack—four teams, ‘six’ in each pack and they are called  Rabbits, Foxes, Squirrels and Hedgehogs.  Each six has raised £78 to sponsor a Guide Dog for the blind for a year. Money has been raised by carol singing and a sponsored walk.

They are a very lively bunch led by ‘Brown Owl’, Julie Caldwell and unit helper Mary Douglas—activities include working at projects to gain badges, playing games and going on pack holidays. As I left they were playing a game called fruit salad in keeping with the theme of the evening.  It certainly looked good fun to me, so if you are a young girl between five and eleven and fancy giving it a try, ring 372493.                                                                                  PH

Volunteers NeededRiding for the Disabled Cornilo Group

Disabled riders need between one and three people each to assist in preparation and during lessons.  If you have a few hours to offer on Tuesdays in School term time, please contact Richard Fuller on 01304 364977 or Marina Aunger at the Stables on 01304 380369 who would be very glad of your support.  Previous experience with disabled people or with horses is not essential.

Great Mongeham Village Design Statement—Consultation Open Day—Sunday, 15th May

Firstly, thanks to Terry for carrying out the complex task of analysing the results of the questionnaire.  In all we received 153 returned forms.  The Steering Group will be looking at the information gathered in planning the consultation process, so that we can be sure that the views expressed are representative of the village residents.  Everyone who, in filling out the questionnaire expressed an interest in being consulted, will be contacted to make sure that they have the opportunity to put forward their views.  It would help if this can take place on the open day.

Remember, if you would like to take part in the work of the group you will be made very welcome, please contact Bob Kersey on 373299.

THANK YOU to our proof reader, Carol Greener and to the following who kindly deliver your Newsletter every month—Ken Friend, Patricia Scott-Bradford, Jenny Windsor, Diana Knight, Wendy Madgwick and John Bowsher.

I should like to thank the person who popped a donation toward the running cost of the Newsletter through my door.  It was a very kind thought and will help to defray the costs and insure that it will keep running for sometime to come.  Both Sue and I are encouraged by the response that we get from the village people.  Please let us know if you have any items of interest that we can share with our readers.                                                                                                   PH
